Girl Pointing Up

Purpose is what drives us. It's what motivates us to get up in the morning and leaves us fulfilled at the end of each day.

WHY ARE WE HERE ?

WHO AM I ?

WHAT IS MY PURPOSE ?

WHAT DO I DO WITH A BIG IDEA ?

Although our children are small, their questions are big, and when we begin to explore the answers to big questions individually, we start to gain a better sense of direction in school, at home and for their future. Kids who connect with a purpose generally are more patient, respectful and confident.

Adults who connect with a purpose have a greater sense of accomplishment, ease, happiness and adventure. They also tend to be less stressed and anxious.

This month, do some self - assessing and discover how even the most diverse groups of children can unite with a common purpose.

YOUR LIFE IS A JOURNEY OF LEARNING, GROWING, CHANGING AND ACCEPTING WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE UNIQUELY DESIGNED TO DO IN THE WORLD.

Authentic happiness and resilience is a direct result of finding purpose in every step you take and in which each interaction you make.

Use these activities for you or your young learners to self-reflect and take the necessary steps towards your goals. With a personal mission statement as the underlying theme of your life, you'll be able to make sound decisions that impact your future. Use your values, frustrations, strengths and weakness serve as a personal compass to help you get a better sense of direction in all areas of your life.

YOUR PURPOSE LESSON STARTS HERE

The "Purpose"  lesson and activities include three PDF downloads:

1. PURPOSE LESSON

This downloadable lesson features big topics for group discussions that spark curiosity and build community in classrooms at the beginning of any school year. Why am I here? Who Am I ? When kids know who they are and why they come to school, they become more willing to listen, learn more about others and be their best for any kind of test!

2. LIFE COMPASS & PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT

A Life Compass defines your roles, priorities, what you stand for, how you want to live and why. Reflect and explore the answers to big questions to help gain perspective on the direction your're heading in life. This tool is a must for any parent or educator who needs a mental resilience strategy to stay focused on positive daily goals and explore what else life may have in store. This is also a great navigational tool for teens to begin their journey and add to as they grow.

3. CLASS PURPOSE MISSION STATEMENT

Give your class motivation to last the year by answering goal-oriented questions with a group mission statement. This is a fun way to build a strong foundation of trust and expectations for any community of learners. This activity walks you through creating a "Class Constitution" of sorts that embodies the principles and qualities that your unique group of students value the most. Empower your students or family members with a life-sized document that unites them with purpose.

Each download purchased this year helps children receive training in Great Day Curriculum and helps us reach classrooms all over the world.

"Purpose"

What do you want to be when you grow up ? This question has set our children's compass off course for generations. In our lifetime, we will do and be many things. While answering this question can give them long-term goals, prematurely answering this question can lead them away from the patience needed to commit to their current roles and be open to new windows of success.

Who am I ? Children are naturally inquisitive. When we start to satisfy their sense of wonder by asking and answering big questions, it can help them gain the confidence they need to live a life with purpose, more meaning and motivation to pursue big goals.

Uniting groups of children for a positive common purpose is a powerful way to establish compassionate, global leaders.

THE SCIENCE OF

"Wonder"

20190920_081147 (2).jpg

Curiosity and wonder are now viewed as an important attribute for the next generation of scientists. "Curiosity is often held up as one of the most favorable qualities of a good scientist", says Samantha Green from the Society Leaders Press.

In a meta-analysis published in Perspective on Psychological Science, Sophie von Stumm proved that conscientiousness and curiosity had positive effects on academic performance, including traditional measure of intelligence.

Not only does deep wonder have educational benefits, it is also linked to various social and psychological strengths including greater tolerance, noncritical attitudes and unconventional thinking.

How This Tool Helped Me

Having a personal mission statement not only helped point me in the direction of my dreams, it allowed me to reflect on my life experiences and see clearly how each of my challenges, big ideas, values, and own unique personality was consistently working like a compass leading me in the right direction every time. As an added bonus, when things get too chaotic in my daily life, my personal purpose statement keeps me mentally resilient and present with my family, life and work.

This too, is my wish for you!
